A self portrait of Harkrader from the
late 80s or early 90s.
An amazingly minimal line drawing
in ink, executed in one never-ending
line. The pen never leaves the paper,
from the beginning until the end.

Hawkins Homeplace

An ink study for the Hawkins Homeplace painting
that Harkrader was commissioned to paint for the
Hawkins family located in Russell County, Virginia
Signed: Chico Harkrader and dated 1978.
Harkrader was in this region, working as a lineman
for C&P Telephone at the time.

Harkrader Childhood Village

Rt. 600 leading into
Parrott, Virginia, childhood home of Harkrader.
Parrott is unique because there is only one way
in and one way out. Near the brick house is
Back Creek and at one time only a single lane bridge.
Near that point, Rt. 600 splits into three roads,
the River Road, the Mountain Road and
the Creek Road. All three dead-end. To depart,
one must return the way they entered.
A palette knife painting by Harkrader in the 90s.
